Financial and Economic Literacy

as Civic Competence

“Financial and Economic Literacy as Civic Competence” is a project supported by ERSTE Foundation which aims to strengthen financial and economic education as a key component of civic competence across Europe.

WHO?

Znanje na djelu (Croatia), THE CIVICS (Germany), and ERSTE Financial Life Park (FLIP) (Austria) are partners on this three-year project (from October 2023 to September 2025).

WHY?

In an increasingly complex world, understanding financial and economic systems is crucial for fostering informed, resilient, and engaged citizens. By integrating financial and economic literacy into civic education, we empower individuals to navigate economic challenges, make informed decisions, and contribute to the sustainability of democratic societies.

HOW?

Our goal is to establish financial and economic literacy as a thematic track within the pan-European Networking European Civic Education (NECE) platform, as well as support innovative pilot projects through the Civic Innovation Fund (CIF).

Key Components of the Project:

  1. Transnational Collaboration: Financial and economic literacy will be woven into NECE’s core components: LABS, CAMPUS and FESTIVAL. These events will be organized throughout the year and will foster collaboration among civic educators, activists, and policy-makers from various European countries, creating a pan-European network dedicated to advancing civic competence.
  2. Calls for project proposals: Through open calls for projects enhancing financial and economic literacy, innovative pilot projects across Europe will be identified and financially supported through the Civic Innovation Fund (CIF).

Stay tuned to our social media channels for updates, upcoming events, and opportunities to get involved. Together, we can make financial and economic literacy a cornerstone of civic education and empower the next generation of European citizens.
