On Thursday, March 18th 2021, geology scientist Jelena Parlov came to Karijeroteka. On the eve of the visit, we talked to Jelena about the advantages and disadvantages of this profession.
- What is the best and what is the worst thing in your profession?
The best thing is that geology cannot be escaped, at least until we colonize Mars. 😉 The worst thing is that despite the “best thing”, a surprisingly large number of people do not know what a geologist is.
- What prior knowledge is important for enrollment at RGN faculty?
Good foundations in the fields of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and geography are useful, but with good will, interest, and motivation everything is manageable.
- And grades from which subjects?
For enrollment, the average of all grades is looked at and carries 40% of the points, the rest of it is the 36% B level math and 24% from physics or chemistry (optional but yields points).
- Working hours of a geologist?
Working hours are in most cases standard as in other professions, but since geologists are often in the field, these days working hours can depend on many factors: weather conditions, duration of daylight, continuous measurements that must not be interrupted and the like.
